Dr. Gharehbaghian as ISBT board of directors

Prof. Ahmad Gharehbaghian, the Head of the Laboratory Hematology and Blood Banking department of the university, has been appointed as the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (EMRO) representative in The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) board of directors since 2014. Also, he has had the membership of The Standing Committee of Education as the EMRO representative and Working Party of Transfusion Transmitted Infectious Diseases which is affiliated to this society (ISBT), since 2011.

The International Society of Blood Transfusion is the premier international professional society for the field encompassing transfusion and transplantation science and medicine. With a long and respected history of achievement, its current strategic vision is’ to facilitate knowledge about transfusion medicine to serve interests of donors and patients’.

Founded in 1935, the Society brings together more than 1500 professionals in the field, from over 105 countries.

Some of the duties and responsibilities of board of directors are as follows:

  • Acting as a link between the ISBT and National or Regional Societies
  • Providing articles for Transfusion Today as appropriate
  • Promoting the ISBT academy
  • Exercising economy and efficiency in the use of resources
  • Attending Boards of Directors face to face meeting and telephone conferences
  • Contributing actively to the board in relation to the strategic direction of the Society and provides guidance on relevant issues
  • Promoting the Society in order to assist in increasing the number of ISBT members
  • Conforming with the requirements of the Standing Financial Instructions and Scheme Delegation. .
